I am normally a big JP fan, but this book just didn't do it for me. I know it was her first, and in my opinion, she vastly improved over time. First, I thought it was VERY difficult to be sympathetic to Jane's character. I know her backstory was supposed to make this happen, but in the end I just thought she was a whiny immature woman who didn't have the decency to just make up her mind already.

Second, I thought the Hadley-Rebecca relationship was super odd. I see the type of relationship Picoul

When I read reviews here and everyone hated it I was nervous, but it wasn't that bad. The characters were not really developed that well, but there was some development. I can tell it was her first book and by that means alone this was good. ...more

Honestly, I couldn't finish this book. I love Jodi Picoult, but this one was really hard to get into, and after two different attempts at picking it up and reading more than half way through, I gave up on it. I'm not sure when this book came out or when I tried to read it, but I feel like it was the mid-90s, early in my residency in Washington, back when I first discovered Powell's Books in Portland, OR. But I didn't really like it and never did get very far into it before I set it aside. ...more

This book was ok. It had a good story line but it wasn't my favorite Picoult book. I didn't like the format, where Rebecca's point of view was going backwards and everyone else's points of view were going in order. It confused me a bit and I didn't understand the purpose of it. ...more

I liked this book, but it was hard to get through. I found myself flipping back to find out what is going on. Not only does it go back and forth between characters, the story line changes. Definatly a book you much sit down with a lot of time on your hands.
