I finished this at about 1 am this morning! That and the excessive amount of snow outside are why I am not at church. Well, that and the fact that I am going to a Christmas party this afternoon as well as grocery shopping and that’s enough time to leave Peggy Sue at home alone. But I digress.

I had high hopes for this one, since I so enjoyed My Sister's Keeper. However, I found the majority of the book to be very slow. I felt that Picoult kept trying to surprise me with new information...which I already predicted would come up 3 chapters previously. I wasn't truly engaged/surprised until the last 15 pages. But by then, I was trying to finish up the book so I could return it to the library on time. An interesting story line, but she lost me for too long in the midst of it. ...more

This book provides a fascinating view of Amish culture and the strong need of its people to belong to the group. All of the elements of a good mystery are here: an unlikely murderer, a distant lover, the strict parents who do not forgive transgressions in their children, and the outsider who comes to know a lovely, innocent-seeming Amish girl and her close family. I enjoyed this book a lot.

This is the story of an unmarried Amish girl who is accused of murdering her newborn baby. I love anything Amish so this book really sucked me in. Picoult definitely keeps you guessing with this one.
