Wow!!!
I read Jodi Picoult when I'm looking for something quick but more substantive than chick lit, sort of like Lifetime channel for books. While she's not formulaic per se, her novels tend to have a particular style that's been "good enough" for me. This one falls out of the mold and took me by surprise in a really good way. Her best book to date in my opinion.
I have read every one of Jodi Picoults' books and Leaving Time will be at the top of the list from here on out.
I had no expectations when I began this story, as usual. If you read her books you know she takes you on a journey that may not be easy but it always makes you think twice. There are always twists and turns. This book was no different in that. Only in that I didn't figure them out because I was too busy savoring the story as it was unfolding.

If you haven't read a Jodi Picoult book before one of the things that makes her writing so lovely is the way she picks some real life topic and researches it to death so that you feel like you're simultaneously lost in a beautiful story and learning at the same time. I've read 20/21 of her novels (I haven't yet read her combined efforts or her graphic novel) and this is among my favorites.
