I absolutely loved this book. I haven't been able to get into fantasy books in some time and this one just drew me straight through. I love the characters and the story. There are many strong female characters here. The writing is almost poetic.

To borrow the single metaphor Novik liberally used every few pages through the entire novel- this book was like wandering through a forest. An impenetrable forest, with no end in sight. And in the end you just wish something would come out of those woods and kill you.

Didn't like. It started out intriguing, but eventually I was dragging to finish it. It fell into a predictable routine early on, with our main character facing some impossible challenge that she shouldn't be likely to survive, but somehow she manages to pull off something that no one would ever expect her to do and saves herself and the key characters who are obviously not going to die. I just couldn't get into this book as much as I tried. The first couple of chapters I thought it was going to be good, but as I continued I just pushed myself through the rest. The magic system didn't make any sense. It was just like they were saying sifjoierewurolsefj all the time. And I wan't to throw the book across the room every time the dragon spoke....treat women like shit much??

Devoured this book and could not put it down once I became enthralled with the storytelling. Wizards and witches, folklore and fairy tales. What is not to love!
