An excellent book that spans the life of a Korean girl from 5 to 60, along with a prologue. In 1914, she decides to be a picture bride in Hawai'i. She does not have an easy life, essentially confined to the inner walls of the family compound in Korea. Her picture husband has presented himself as more than he is in real life. There are troubles for her and the other picture brides she meets on the ship to Hawai'i. There is information in this book that makes Hawai'i somewhat easy to compare with

3+ stars -- great story but it took me quite awhile to get into it; could be the point in my life, or could be an extremely slow set-up.
