Insightful book that delves into the relationship between an upper middle class woman in India and her housekeeper/cook who lives in a shanty town. Though they develop a friendship over the many years they are together, the underlying truth is that the social/class structure in India prevents them from ever truly being friends. Well written and truly enjoyable even if it is hard to comprehend the disdain that the upper class has for those "beneath" them. ...more
