This is one of the best books I have read in ages. Although it needs no help from me, I will be pushing A Man Called Ove on all my friends. I genuinely can't think of any person who wouldn't like it. I laughed out loud so many times throughout the book. I also cried more than I expected. I found myself seeking out my husband to read him passages from the book that I thought were hilarious. I loved this. It’s a beautiful story of someone who was lost, who gave up hope, and who found his purpose in life again and his ability to love and accept love. I think some of the negative reviewers are missing the point - Ove is not supposed to be an extremely likeable character. He is misunderstood and comes off bitter, when really he is just old school, very matter of fact & broken (much like the cat). Fantastic! So beautiful, sad, funny and tragic all at the same time! I laughed out loud and few books move me to tears, but this one did!
Backman is very talented in describing in a short but accurate way so that you immediately know what is being described.
Ove is a man we've all met. He seems like a complete bastard, but deep down he has a big heart, he just lacks social skills.

Reading this elegantly crafted work was an extremely humbling experience. The book had a strong warm feeling of the good old days and the simplicity of life.
