This is one of the best books I have read in ages. Although it needs no help from me, I will be pushing A Man Called Ove on all my friends. I genuinely can't think of any person who wouldn't like it. I laughed out loud so many times throughout the book. I also cried more than I expected. I found myself seeking out my husband to read him passages from the book that I thought were hilarious. Even he, who knew nothing about the book laughed at the passages. I guess the best way to describe it would ...more

I loved this. It’s a beautiful story of someone who was lost, who gave up hope, and who found his purpose in life again and his ability to love and accept love. Fantastic! So beautiful, sad, funny and tragic all at the same time! I laughed out loud and few books move me to tears, but this one did!
Backman is very talented in describing in a short but accurate way so that you immediately know what is being described.
Ove is a man we've all met. He seems like a complete bastard, but deep down he has a big heart, he just lacks social skills.

My best read so far this year!

Reading this elegantly crafted work was an extremely humbling experience. The book had a strong warm feeling of the good old days and the simplicity of life. The old-school"tough love" was a refreshing change and left a lingering feeling of compassion and gratitude. I kind of feel like we all have an 'Ove' in us. ...more
