I think what I liked most about this book is that it was a love letter to books and stories. Maybe it was because I had not read a book like this for a while, but I didn't see the plot twists coming because I was enjoying the story so much. Right from the very beginning and the reference to Lamb to the Slaughter, one of my mom's favorite Alfred Hitchcock episodes (which I did not realize was based on a Roald Dahl story), the inclusion of the stories and their frequent foreshadowing added to my i ...more

Love, love, LOVE this slim little book. Of course, I'm conditioned to love it, having grown up in a small town with one small bookstore, and now living in a different small town with one small bookstore. And as someone who loves books, and wants to press favorites into the hands of everyone I meet, this was a great story showing the power of the written word to bring people together.
