The first several years with Anne are mostly filled with internal thoughts swamped by Anne's talking and story telling. As she grows older, she has less rambling monologues and the events are told as they happen via narration rather than told after the fact in Anne's dialogues. This was one of my daughter's favorite books when she was growing up, and interesting enough I have never read it until this week. It lives up to its hype, and I plan to read others in the series soon. It is a pleasure to read books from another time, with admirable characters, and simple pleasures.
