I listened to the Audible version of this novel with two friends on the way back from a beach trip. It was read by the author, which was nice because you know she is putting emphasis where she intended. I found Alice incredibly sympathetic. I empathized with her family, even those who handled her rapidly declining mental health worse than others. I have never had any experience of anyone with early onset Alzheimer's disease, but I feel like I have some understanding of it after reading this book. A beautiful story of Alice, a 50 year old college professor, an expert in her field, a wonderful career woman and mother. Then she gets Alzheimer's. At first it's little things, like not being able to remember a certain word or not remembering what one of the things on her to do list is. A story that shakes you to your core and stays in your mind for a long time. Both moving and terrifying, beautiful and tragic.

Amazing book. I thought the perspectives were well written from both sides. And thank you to the author for writing a book about this for the masses. I've worked with several people with masters and PHD's and most often they write technical books full of techno babble, that is not to say that I didn't have to look up things and do reasearch while reading this, but it was inline with what I would normally do while reading any book. ...more
