Some random thoughts:
The second book in a trilogy, The Ask and the Answer performs its function by deepening the problems faced by the protagonists. Just like the first book in the series, The Ask and the Answer also ends on a cliffhanger, though not quite as intense as the first. I found the plot and the character development in this book had me on edge because it was so much less predictable and harder to follow as the author often changes narrative perspective. I am hopeful that the third book will be easier to navigate but even if it isn't I am eager to take it on!

Mayor Prentiss is a truly diabolical nemesis! It’s understandable why Todd is unrelentingly torn between admiration and loathing.
