Beautifully written. I enjoyed how the stories of Werner and Marie-Laure were woven together. I can't imagine being teenagers and growing up under the circumstances in which they did.

A beautiful novel about the experience of WWII from the point of view of two children, Marie-Laure Le Blanc in France and Werner Pfennig in Germany. War novels can be a challenge, they can get very heavy and depressing, but I was pleasantly surprised. Doerr portrays all of the heartbreak without getting too deep into the politics - this is all about the individuals, the children.

Haunting, this book stays with you. It is beautifully written.
It was difficult for me to get into and follow due to the structure of how it was written. It had some really beautiful imagery and an intriguing storyline but it did not captivate me the same way it seemed to for a lot of other people.
