I absolutely loved this book! I was hesitant to read it because so many books are set in WWII and I was getting a little tired of this setting. I recommend this one and The Nightingale because both are different from what you'd expect. Both are set during the war, however the focus is on the characters and their relationships.

Not going to spoil anyone here so it's gonna be a safe review! I really loved this book, the writing was so beautiful and enchanting. The setting and time were horrible (as in: I wouldn't want to live during the 2nd WW time. I guess everyone would agree to that). The pace was rather slow for the first half of the book, the plot seemed to go into nothingness – but stick to the book and it will pay off. I liked this. I'm not sure why I didn't love it. I think I just didn't understand the purpose of the book. What was the point? I did listen to this in the car, so there may have been something lost in translation as I navigated traffic, turned the car off and on and missed snippets here and there. But in the end, I just didn't feel the way I think I should have about the book. I loved Marie-Laure and Werner so I guess that counts for something. ...more
