I read this book because I grew up loving the film and always wondered about the book. It irritates me to say that I was less than impressed. The book was okay... The way that it was written was slightly confusing and meant that I couldn't really get into the story as much as I would have liked. I almost feel as if the only reason I connected with the characters was because I already liked them... I read this long after having seen the film, but I loved it even more than the movie. The book differs in several key ways, but the overall message remains the same: life is not fair. I love this book for being everything it is -- adventure, romance, fairy tale, and satire of all three.
