What Members Thought

Still trying to formulate a review, but I'm left utterly speechless and unable to breathe. And I cried, like ugly cried, to the point that my husband looked alarmed and I, heaving, told him it was the most beautiful thing I've ever read. I fell in love with the book on page one, decided it was important and epic on page fourteen, and throughout the book had this unexplainable running thought that I wish there was a way to inhale the whole story, just so that I could hold it closer and carry it a

I will probably have to come back and edit this review, because there is so much to say about this book. A good measure of a book's meaning to me is how many questions it creates in my mind, and how long it stays with me; I'm sure I will think of this for years to come.
Part of that undoubtedly is because I've been to many of the places in the book, some of them for geocaching. When I heard they were going to Hoosier Hill, I had to break out laughing, because it is as described in the book; a lit ...more

While I liked this book and the realistic way it approaches grief and depression, I just felt like there could have been another way. After reading the author'a note, however, I understand why Niven chose to write the book in this way. I just hope that those who read this can find peace and comfort if needed.

I have been reading this and am not sure that I am going to finish it...which is fairly rare for me. I feel like this book is glorifying topics that should not be glorified. Especially for the teen audience that it is intended for.
Now that I have finished the book- I have some different thoughts. I still feel that this is a difficult topic and I am not comfortable with how it was handled by the author. As I read the book, I felt that the author did not "research" her topic well. However, when I ...more

Theodore Finch, a beautiful, intelligent, creative boy, was disappearing and no one, including his family seemed to notice.
Violet, is a girl filled with grief and guilt, and trying to find the will to go on after loosing a loved one.
Then Finch talks a girl off a cliff and this beautifully written, heart-warming story of budding friendship and love, being lost and found, forgiveness, and grief begins.

I normally don't like alternating narrators but I think it really works here.

This book was recommended to my by my son, Mike because I had enjoyed The Fault in our Stars. This was a well written YA book dealing with teenage angst, depression and suicide. The characters of Violet and Finch touched my heart. Such a sad story. Have your tissues ready. Looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out.
