I would give this 3.5 stars, rounded up because I think it would have been a full 4 or 4.5 if I was more into this genre, though describing the genre would be a trick in itself. I listened on Audiobook and the narrator was very good. The idea of authors mixing genres has become so popular, it seems every book I read lately is hard to categorize. This one mixes fantasy/mythology with historical urban drama....and the plight of the early American immigrant. Also, there is a fair bit of discussion

The characters are well-developed and intriguing, their growth captivating. The plot is interesting , and the glimpses into late 19th and early 20th-century New York, particularly its ethnic neighborhoods, are fascinating. I’m drawn to that era in New York. The book was easy to read, but in the last 130 pages, it became an irresistible page-turner.
