What Members Thought
It was amazing and moving to read about this man's faith in God, perseverance in trials, and his occasional failures to live up to his ideal. Beautifully written--his sentences and vocabulary were amazing--it reads more like an adventure, and one cringes to think that it is actually true. 'For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning'.

4.5 rating. I really loved the writing style, rather poetic and a lot of old language. It made the book a beautiful read, in the midst of a very hard and sad topic. I love history and reading true accounts of historical events, so I loved this book. One thing I would have been interested in was to hear more about some of the other slaves' lives, those who shared part of Northup's experience. I also feel as if the book sort of just ended and wrapped up quickly, I would have enjoyed more of his th
