It took me forever to get into this short story collection, but once I was halfway through the first story "1922", I basically flew through the book. All of those stories have something very sinister in common and when you're looking for a happy ending, you won't get it in those stories (sometimes Stephen King stories come with a happy ending, but those always have a prize). There as one story in here that I did not like- Big Driver as the graphic nature and the subject matter bothered me. However, I found the other stories to be vintage King. I especially liked his afterward where he offers to take the reader's hand and lead us back into the light.

This novel is the compilation of four short stories. The first two were quite powerful, and I could feel everything the main characters felt. I found them a challenging to read because of the emotional depth. They're definitely not stories for the faint heart.
