A somewhat sanitized British take on the then-banned Madame Bovary, The Doctor's Wife is the story of an unhappy young wife who looks for fulfillment outside the bonds of her marriage...although the comparison ends there. Sensation novels, popular in England in the mid- to late 19th century, were Braddon's specialty, so you can expect lots of melodrama and far-fetched plot developments. It's a lot of fun, though. I highly recommend it!
