Hailed as the original Vampire story and inspired by events that sparked the creation of Frankenstein, there's a lot of myth around the origins of this short novel. Indeed the story of its being wwritten is perhaps more interesting than the novel itself.
Said to be based on Lord Byron himself Polidori's vampiric Lord Ruthven is a sinister enough character, however I found this a laborious read, lacking an engaging narrator and somewhat anticlimactic. I'm glad I've read it but not a favourite and ...more
