The first installment in the Leaphorn / Chee series, The Blessing Way is as fascinating for its depiction of Navajo traditions, beliefs, and culture as it is successful for its page-turning mystery. It provided me with a window into a way of life with which I was completely unfamiliar, and my interest guided me towards other nonfiction sources to learn more. Hillerman's descriptions of the desert landscape are wonderful as well.

That said, Joe Leaphorn, while likable, isn't the most deftly drawn ...more

My Arizona book. It was OK - 2 1/2 stars on GR, although I would definitely read more by Hillerman.
