This story, published in 1942, was a contribution by Steinbeck to the effort to mentally shore up the countries under invasion by Germany at that time. I would never have thought that I would be a person who suggested and loved and cried over American war propaganda. But I guess that’s Steinbeck for you. A little heavy handed with his messages, but it surprisingly took very little away from the impact of it. A great recommendation from my coworker, 5/5 stars and Steinbeck might now officially be my favorite author???
