Dodie Smith gave us 101 Dalmations. Who knew? I had only ever heard of her in reference to this work, but I’m guessing Cruella DeVille was her masterpiece character.

Anyway, this review is about I Capture the Castle, written in the form of seventeen year old Cassandra Mortmain’s diary. It is cute, light-hearted and completely predictable. I can't believe it's taken me until now to read this book! I loved it! Cassandra is a clever, sympathetic and funny narrator and paints a nostalgic but suitably unsentimental picture of life in the castle. An enjoyable read. ...more
