Anne McCaffrey is one of the reasons I love stories about dragons. She has created this wonderful world of Pern (a planet colonized by Earth), where dragons are a necessity for survival.
This the third time I have read this book.

02/01/2017: I never tire of these stories. I enjoyed this reading as much as if it were the first.

I really wanted to like this book because it is classic dragon fantasy. The opening few chapters were gripping, if somewhat confusing. But midway through the book, the story turned to a catalog of events rather than a story. The author uses a lot of her own words so in the beginning it is difficult to understand what she is describing. Then we get a series of events that feel like clips from a movie than a story.
