I finished All the King's Men a week or so ago, but have struggled with my rating and review.
Prose: 4 or 5 stars. It is beautifully written. Poetic and lyrical. Flows easily.
BUT...
Mood: 2 stars. This one feels deeply dismal and sad. It feels as though the author haated people. The characters are unlikable, but that isn't always a reason to dislike a book for me. (I loved Updike's Angstrom for example, and Toole's Reilly.). Unfortunately I found nothing redeemable in Willie Stark.
