With echoes of Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, Edna Pontellier of Chopin's work acknowledges her life, her place in the universe (here upper Creole society in Louisiana), and, new awareness in place, goes forward. But unlike the very English Clarissa Dalloway, Edna Pontellier ends her journey -spoiler- and herself (oddly enough very Woolf-like) in the sea, alone, as opposed to Clarissa at her party.

This book is so tame compared to what is written today. I am not sure I really understood Edna. She had a good life for those times. She made all the changes she wanted and still was not content with what she had. In the end when she could not have the ultimate goal she took a very difficult path (which I didn't agree with)
