Not so terrible as claimed by some reviewers, on the contrary.
The book is very well written and certainly had inspired many authors in the genre of horror fiction. A very good surprise indeed.

It is rare that I read horror of any sort, but this one has been on my radar for quite some time, and so I finally checked out the audio of Overdrive and was happily surprised. There are no murders, monsters or gore here. It is more about psychological fear of the unknown, and I found it a true snapshot of what it is like to live with that fear. I'm not sure how to rate horror mostly because I don't read much of it, so I haven't yet figured out if I should give more stars because it scared me more, more stars because I enjoyed it more or what. I actually don't really enjoy being scared. It's very masochistic. Anyway, I read this ages ago and it's very effective because I remember most of it, especially the climax which amazed me.

Deserving of its reputation. An eerie book. Not as gripping maybe by today's standards but well worth the read.
