I read The Martian Chronicles back in 2012 and gave it a five-star rating as well as 7th place in my list of the ten best books I read for the year. After rereading it this year, I contemplated dropping it to a four or four and a half star rating, but just could not make a move to do so. I feel that these loosely connected short stories provide such merit to not only a speculation of what the future may hold for us, but also commentary on the issues of present. Shelves: classics
Although I have read some independent short stories by Bradbury, this is my first collection. Although they are all set on Mars, they are not a continuous story. Once I realized I should not be trying to find any continuity between the stories, I relaxed and just enjoyed them individually.

The initial story, Rocket Summer, was very interesting in the unexpected way the Martians dealt with the coming of the Americans. Much as I would expect we would deal with aliens alighting on our own shores. A

I loved this book. Each tale had its own melancholy. Mars was perhaps too believable but its destiny was also disappointingly believable. A bleak vision, beautifully written.
