A lovely children's book; well written and with good lessons and an early pre-women's-lib feminism to boot. Story centers around the proper upbringing for girls, and whether they should properly be allowed to bloom freely as children or be harnessed and coddled into propriety and young "womanhood".

Unfortunately, having just re-read Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, the most glaring deficiency in this book is the lack of character development and the poor quality of the dialogue. Both are ...more
