This is a fine enough novel on its own. McMurtry continues to excel at characterization. The plot is engaging, even if it’s a little more bonkers than usual. How everybody seems to be drifting through the entire West, but still accidentally running into each other is a little too coincidental for my tastes. On its own, it’s probably a 4-star read.

I enjoyed the novel. I read Lonesome Dove several years ago and picked this sequel up recently. It was a good read. I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Lonesome Dove. I thought the character development in this edition to the series seemed slightly shallower relative to Lonesome Dove. ...more
