[3.5 stars] There are two novels here: one 5-star read and one 3-star read. The prose is as wonderful as usual. If you’ve read McMurtry, you know whether you like it or not. He’s not the most succinct writer, but his authorial voice is authentic in a way few others are. Also, McMurtry writes killer characters.
