What Members Thought
Nothing else I have read has brought to life the Old West like McMurtry's Lonesome Dove! I could practically taste the steak and beans cooked on the campfire. I could see the herds of buffalo. I could feel the sting of the dust on my face. I live in Colorado and all around me is the evidence of life in this era so the book made my home more intriguing.
Each character was unique, likable and very real. I liked the people McMurtry introduced to me well enough that I plan to look for the second book ...more

Wonderful story and wonderful storyteller! And Gus is wonderful too!

But I have been thinking...... I didn't name my Curly Coated Retriever dog, Oscar, Gus, and I am kind of embarrassed that I gave this book 4 stars. I am demoting it to 3. That is the proper rating.. From me, that is!
