I decided to read the Hobbit after the first movie was released. I don't know why I never read it before, given that I used to be a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings a few years ago (again thanks to the movies). Then again, reading LOTR was a long process that was never renewed (I was 14 and was bored with the writing style).

I enjoyed reading about the adventures of Bilbo Baggins. What I appreciated most about this book was how Tolkien portrayed the effects of these adventures on Bilbo's character. Through all of the challenges, Bilbo came to know aspects of himself that he had not known before he left his comfy little hobbit hole. It is a wonderful analogy for all the challenges we face in life and how they give us opportunities to know our inner strengths. ...more

Meski baru menonton film Lord of The Ring, belum lagi membaca bukunya, entah kenapa saya lebih menyukai karakter hobbit yang satu ini (Bilbo) ketimbang Frodo dalam Lord of The Ring movie. Sifatnya yang nakal sekaligus baik hati merupakan kesenangan tersendiri ketimbang film yang saya tonton. Pandangan saya menjadi lebih terbuka dengan pengarang Tolkien. It's so nice to go through a book as well-written and enjoyable as this one. It's kind of funny that I had never taken the time to read it, after all of these years of enjoying Tolkien's universe. Now what I'm really wondering is how they're going to adapt such a whimsical, light-hearted children's tale into a Peter Jackson movie. ...more
