I last read THE HOBBIT maybe 30 years ago? I remember finding it silly, but enjoyable, and much of that still holds true. I can say for certain this book did not need to be a film trilogy; Peter Jackson managed to drag out a tale that was already slow.

I don't even know where to start in reviewing this book. It is amazing! Tolkien's literary genius and rich imagination boggle my mind! I can't believe I missed out on this book all these years, but I am certainly the better for having read it. I look forward to getting through LOTR later this winter.
