This had long been a book I'd heard spoken of in almost reverential awe. Sounds like high praise, no? Well, it's actually deserved. In this time of overheated egos and star reaching hype (and concomitant disappointment) this book, forgive the obvious, shimmers and glows above them all, placed soundly in the firmament as, if not the diadem, then certainly something that deserves your attention.

A pilot's plane crashes in the Sahara Desert. Here he meets the Little Prince, who is essentially an alien from a tiny asteroid. Throughout the story, we learn about the Prince's adventures, which teach us valuable life lessons.

I love this book. I've read it in both English and the original French, and it never fails to make me cry. I quote from it. I've read it out loud to all the children in my life. I recommend it to anyone who will listen. I go back to it at least once a year. This short, whimsical tale is infused with wisdom and warmth and is as close to perfect as a book can be.
