I actually read this book twice, it was short at 121 pages. After reading "inbetween the lines", I am still not sure if the governess is crazy or the ghost are real. ...more

This was something. The ending left me a bit stunned...
It is the story of a young governess, taking care of the niece and the nephew of some rich gentleman. Odd things happen and you are less and less sure whether there are ghosts or is maybe the governess loosing her mind? It was published in small pieces in a newspaper in 1898, people were kept waiting at the cliffhanger points of the stories.
I enjoyed it, even though the last third didn't capture me as much as the beginning...

Terjemahannya kaku, tapi versi asli bahasa inggrisnya juga susah untuk kemampuanku yang sangat terbatas ;___;
sebenarnya ceritanya bagus tapi karena kemampuan bahasa inggris yang kurang, jadi kurang memahami banyak bagian ceritanya.

"It's Henry James!!! I cannot just turn it off!" - that's how I made myself to finish listening to this book. Basically, if dead people, unreliable narrators, children, and slow exquisite writing is your thing, go for it. The narration by Emma Thompson was purely exquisite.
