A tremendous book - about friendship, divergent beliefs within Judaism, Zionism, father and son relationships, the value of compassion AND, to top it all off, we are treated to a great baseball match!

I believe this is the 3rd read of this book. It is simply wonderful. A book about two fathers and their sons, coming of age in the 40s. What I wouldn't give to have the Jewish education, the burning desire to learn. Alas, I believe with my heart and soul in Jesus.

I reread this to join my son in his summer reading. A very moving book and very well written. I could really identify with Reuven, the main character and sympathized with Danny, his Hasidic Jewish friend. Potok's writing really brings to life the setting and characters to the point I felt at times I was there with them, wanting to tell them what I thought. Reuven becomes friends with Danny and watches as he struggles to leave his Jewish community to do what he feels he should in life. The author

I have read The Chosen by Chaim Potok several times over the years. It's such a great book with so much to discuss and think about. It's truly a manual on becoming a scholar and finding meaning and purpose in life.
