2. A Little Princess
I loved Hodgson’s The Secret Garden, too, but it was the bookish, imaginative Sara Crewe that stole my whole heart. I was a girl growing up in Boise, Idaho, a place of blinding sunshine and little rain, and reading about Victorian London was transporting. Sara’s life was so different from my life – Miss Minchin’s boarding school for girls, her brief upbringing in India, her gorgeous dresses and fabulous dolls.
