Well, that was fun. I'm told this was written in 1965 or so, and published in 1969/70. It is Atwood's first published novel. Her themes have not changed a great deal. The story follows Marion, a attractive young woman, university graduate, who has a dead end job with a marketing/advertising company. Marion bemoans the fact that she can't move up in the company; all the "upstairs" executives are men; not can she move down to more working class 'floor.'
