I find it very difficult to review a book like this one. It is well-written and a rare glimpse of Africa from the viewpoint of a 19th century tribe before and at the onset of colonization. It has found a significant place in the literary cannon, and I feel that it is well-deserved, and yet it left me almost untouched.

Read the First Book in a Series Written by a POC
I really didn't enjoy this at first based on the type of writing. Of course, knowing the author's background at the time of writing this, it makes sense, yet, it is still hard to ignore. Once I took this at just story value, I enjoyed it more...though I'm not sure that is the right word. This story is pretty brutal and ripe with traditions and values very foreign to me.
