Another masterpiece written by Clarice Lispector and it's considered one of her best books.

in 2015 I read the book Barren Lives by Graciliano Ramos, which takes place in Northeastern Brazil, or the Backlands, where it's inhabitants often struggle to survive during drought and poverty. They are often taken advantage of because many are illiterate. Lispector's main character, Macabea is from the Backlands, and ends up in the slums of Rio. ...more

What am I missing? People that I trust loved this book, but I just found it dull and boring, too philosophical and wordy despite it being only 96 pages. I listened to the audio version and wonder if that is the reason I didn't connect. ...more
