This was a difficult read for me. It was boring and I really disliked the main character, Siddhartha. It's considered one of the most widely read books of the 20th century as it became a favorite of the counterculture of the 1960s and had been on my list for a while. Now, that's taken care of...lol. Rating: 1.5 stars

In this Buddhist allegory gets bogged down in tangential prose. After reading far more probing texts, this left much to he desired. I suppose if this was my first encounter with Buddhism it would have made a more lasting impression. With that said, I believe that there are far better introductions to the Western student.
As a story it was slow and languished. I never really felt connected to the protagonist. It seemed to be written to introduce points rather than tell a good story.

This book was given to me at just the right time. I had been contemplating the direction of my life and reading many spiritual books. I fell under the spell of this beautiful story at once.
A young man leaves his father's house in search of Nirvana. His journey takes him down many paths. The reader follows hoping that Siddhartha does indeed find the answer so that we too will know.
