My knowledge of Buddha is minimal. My knowledge of the tie between Hinduism and Buddha is even more minimal. But I read this book because it is consistently listed as one of the best books ever written. Herman Hesse took the story of Buddha's journey to become Buddha is written simply; it is poetry to read. It is beautiful and full of wisdom. The messages spoke to my mind and to my heart and I am certain to read this again, because it is a book full of peace and love and I want that in my life.

I finished reading "The Lord of the Flies" at two o'clock this morning and could not have picked a better follow-up than "Siddhartha". Not only does it address the same issue of Freud's Id and Ego that Golding tackled, but it pulled me out of the chilled mood that came from watching children become savages; this novel showed me the opposite extreme, the great potential of humanity, their capacity for love, existing alongside their hate and sorrow.

This book was given to me at just the right time. I had been contemplating the direction of my life and reading many spiritual books. I fell under the spell of this beautiful story at once.
A young man leaves his father's house in search of Nirvana. His journey takes him down many paths. The reader follows hoping that Siddhartha does indeed find the answer so that we too will know.

A satisfying journey through a man's path to wisdom. "Wisdom cannot be taught" it can only be learned the had way...
