As another reviewer said, she went into this book expecting the literary equivalent to Fifty Shades of Gray, and I have to say I felt the same. But this book is so much deeper than that. The writing is impeccable, beautiful and rich. D H Lawrence wrote an erotic, romantic novel, that is also feminist and strong. Published in 1928 and immediately banned everywhere, it stands up to the test of time and feels very modern.

Read for HEAC's Quarterly Classic Group Read. I must admit I have never had any desire to read this book due mainly to the subject matter of adultery. But it was voted as our Group read and I felt obliged to read it anyway. That said, I do admit it wasn't horrible. The style of writing was easy to read and moved at a fairly decent pace. But I wasn't overly thrilled with the story itself. Like I have said, I hate reading about adultery and will admit it affected my rating. I also never truly felt
