If you enjoy a lively modern translation, and/or you look for readability so you can get through a monumental foreign classic for the first time, I highly recommend this Tom Stoppard version of The Cherry Orchard.

I saw this play at the University of Utah, with a date. I learned he didn't like children or old people, and after that I didn't remember anything about the play. I decided to listen to this play to see what I had missed. This book is presented as a play, with good actors for the most part. The aristocratic family goes back to their estate, after a five year absence. People keep asking the mother for loans, and she just freely gives them money. I've read this several times - its short - because its supposed to be so wonderful. Not for me its not. Do not get the praise.
