I know this is a classic, critically acclaimed collection of short stories. I'm just not a fan of modern or post-modern fiction, and I did not really enjoy reading this.

أول مرأة أقرأ له و المصادفة أن هذه مجموعته القصصية الأولى و هى تحكى عن حال الناس فى دبلن
فى فترة ما بين الاحتلال و الاستقلال ..
و أسامى القصص (الشقيقات - لقاء - السوق العربية - ايفلين - بعد السباق - سحابة صيف - صورة طبق الأصل
العانس - الانتخابات - الأم - التوبة - و الموتى) والموتى طويلة جدا بالنسبة لقصة قصيرة
معظم القصص ليست لها نهاية مغلقة أو معينة .. مجرد نهاية مفتوحة
و ده ضايقنى فى بعض القصص لنى فى النهاية لم أفهم مغزى القصة و فى بعضها كان مناسب جدا!

A short collection of beautiful glimpses into the lives of Dubliners around the turn of the century, and into the talent of James Joyce. At times heart rending, at times sublime this collection culminates in The Dead, a truly masterful piece of writing.
One of my favourite short stories was actually really early on in the book called An Encounter, I couldn't tell you why exactly, just that the tone set and the vivid details were something I felt carried throughout the book.

The three stars are an average - most of the stories were really just not very good. Dull. Boring. Predictable. The only standout is the one most of us have already read: The Dead. Its a lovely story, and everything works. I think it may be my favorite thing Joyce ever wrote. How are the rest so mundane?
