A labyrinth of struggling art and the passion to create through words set in the background of 1900's ireland that is being choked by england, the catholic church, and (by Dedalesus' observation) the irish people as well.

This book is straight cash. I can't add anything new to what has been said, but this is a window into Joyce's own struggles with the Irish Catholic church and trying to figure out how to lead his life. There's a lot less about his art than I would have thought, but his artistic philosophies do permeate into his ways of thinking. This is an exploration of the impact of religion on upbringing.
