What Members Thought
Very long, but one of the most readable and enjoyable books I have completed in a long time. It is in many respects an analysis of society's greed and financial corruption, which is of course still relevant. The characters are also brilliantly drawn and I repeatedly saw in many of them aspects of many people I know.

I thought it was particularly good and I don't know, maybe because I was also reading Dickens in the meantime and that it was much slower, the story captured me, despite the fact that I am well aware that it was a Feuilleton, at least for me, because I am certainly not in a position to make an examination of it aimed at highlighting the irony and criticisms that the author identified in the English society of the time.

#22 on the McCrum list. Eerily similar to the way we ARE living now with the public and politicians ignoring dishonesty when it suits them and accepting a lack of basic moral standards purely because of a person's power and monetary status . Giving it a strong 4 stars within the category. My first Trollope book. Enjoyable.
