This was excellent in audio format, and gave me a whole new perspective on Emma and, more notably, on Jane Fairfax. I've always been ambivalent about Jane, and with this slow read I've really come around. I wish we'd gotten more Jane.

I also, even, came around to the Frank Churchill/Jane Fairfax pairing. She is too good for him, but I'm convinced at this point that he knows it and that his knowing it will make him a better man. He's not quite so shallow as I believed.

#7 on the chronological McCrum list read. I'm reading several in a row now that things have gotten more modern. This is being written over a year after the reading while I'm getting the GR account squared away so I'll write no details but its getting 5 stars....

5= Truly cream of the crop. Amazing. In a wondrous realm of their own
4= Special and well written. Truly a good/maybe great book, but not a rare 5 star wonder.
