What Members Thought
I read the Norton edition of Emma in 2004, pre-goodreads. I rated it a 5. Now, over ten years from my first read of Emma, I'm doing a buddy read of the beautiful, annotated Shapard edition in September 2016. How much have my Austen tastes changed?
(Oops, forgot to update- just a note on this edition—)
I loved this Shepard edition so much that I bought each of Austen’s books in one. They beat the Norton editions easily, and any other annotated edition I’ve read. The annotations are very helpful. So ...more

I enjoyed this much more than Manga Classics: Pride and Prejudice and even a bit more than the novel this manga is based on. I haven’t read the novel in a long time, but I remember thinking it was too slow. This manga adaptation, like all other adaptations, makes the pace a bit faster, so that made the story more enjoyable to me.

I put off reading this book for nearly 20 years because it was the last one. I'd read every other novel and story by Austen. Once I cracked open Emma, there would be no more. It was strangely comforting to know that there was one more novel out there waiting for me. (I'm not gonna lie. I'd seen every movie and TV adaptation of Emma, so I was well acquainted with Emma Woodhouse long before I finally picked up the book.)

I really liked this manga, it conveys very well the atmosphere of Jane Austen's novel and it was a pleasure to read.
Questo manga mi é piaciuto molto, i disegni riescono a veicolare molto bene quella che é l'atmosfera di questo romanzo di Jane Austen ed é stato un piacere rileggerlo.

I loved this book much better than Pride and Prejudice, to be honest! I want to read it in Russian now, to compare the flow of the story. Translators' pains fascinate me - I know that sometimes it is impossible to convey the exact meaning of an expression in a translation. ...more
